Located in the heart of Newark’s business and educational district, St. Michael’s Medical Center plays an integral role in supporting the health and wellness of their community. The project will expand the emergency department into a state-of-the-art center, increasing its capacity to double the current volume. The new size will meet the current and is sized to meet the future demands.
The project also improved the overall site circulation, separating the main hospital lobby and drop off area to a different part of the campus. The emergency department walk in and ambulance drop off is now in a dedicated zone, easily accessed from the main thoroughfare. The expanded department increases the amount of acute exam rooms, provides a secured holding area, dedicated asthma bays and 4 resuscitation rooms. There is also dedicated diagnostic Imaging within the department.
